The Streets at Southpoint
Our team was retained to develop communications strategies for The Streets at Southpoint mall project in Durham, NC. Prior to zoning approval, a well-funded, highly effective group formed to halt the development of the mall and created a groundswell of opposition to the project. We were retained by developer Urban Retail Properties to effectively counter the opposition activities.
The team was responsible for government and community relations to ensure zoning approval by the city council, which passed by an overwhelming majority. We developed a comprehensive information package for the elected officials to utilize in their decision making process and worked closely with the communities adjacent to the mall site to assess their objectives and gain support of the key opinion leaders. We established on-going media relations activities in order to monitor coverage by the news media, and managed the groundbreaking ceremony activities.
